a new braking problem

ok, my civic ex is my first car, so understand that i have no basis for comparison if i think there is something wrong with it. i did a search for "brakes," but nothing really talked about what i'm experiencing. sometimes (SOMEtimes; every once in a while i don't feel this) when i'm braking--coming up to a stop sign or light--i start slowing down normally, but then, at a certain point, i'll all of a sudden feel a jerk (like downshifting or something), which slows me down considerably, and then the rest of the way will be normal slowing down again. like i said, i'm a newbie, so i'm not sure what's really happening. it COULD actually be the car downshifting (it's an auto), so i don't know if all you autos out there feel it, too. i lied about having no basis for comparison, though; i used to drive my parents' accord V6 ex (auto), and it doesn't have that problem. alright, well thanks for listening...i'm going to the shop in a week to check out a messed-up door handle and a buzzing from the light, so i'll ask about this, too. by the way, anyone know about adventon.com's reputation? they have the best price on an AEM SRI, so i was thinking about that.

Though I don't have an auto Civic...I'm guessing it is the downshift that is causing the jerk.

I'm with PESTLNC, sounds like the tranny downshifting which is normal. Now if its so bad that it feels like your going to be put through the front windshield, then you got some more serious problems..

It's a 4 speed, right?
In an auto Integra, there'll be a noticeable downshift if I slow down from 50 km/h and remain under 20 km/h for a few seconds. Probably the same for you. No worries.

Honda autos can be VERY rough sometimes when shifting. I'm with everyone else on the downshifting diagnosis. lol

I have that same "jerk", I posted something about it a while back too. This is my first car and stuff too but I drive my parents other cars and none of them do it. I actually went to the dealer about it and they thought I was crazy, espcially since when we took it out, it didn't do it. They said it was just normal and gave me some other bull but I think its okay.

I know exactly what you are talking about. I asked around, its part of the grade logic system, it happens to me also. On the way from my house to the highway, I always have to brake going down this steep hill for a turn. 2 out of 5 times, and esp. when I'm coming down from a quicker speed, the tranny downshifts. When you all feel this, immediately watch your tach, when the kick happens, the rpm goes up a slight bit, the result of a downshift. I don't mind it once I found out nothing was wrong, as it aids in the slowing process, like downshifting a manual to help slow down.
