PLEASE HELP!

I'm really sorry you guys... I don't know much about Civic's except how to drive the dang things.. my friend and I both have 96 Civic EX Coupe's (I don't even think they're are 7th Gen Honda's.. are they?:confused But I've been searching and searching and seaching online for an answer and haven't been able to find one. I'm hoping one of you can help me! The DANG DRIVERS SIDE WINDOWS BUSTED! She rolled her's down one day and it didn't roll back up... it would only roll up 1/2 way. It was TOTALLY off track. Somehow it had gotten on the OTHER side of the plastic stopper that usually covers the front of your window on the outside of the car. A few months later, mine did the same. We openend the panels and managed to get the window back on track and up.
I left mine alone, afraid that it would break again and not wanting to have an open window since at the time I was living in Seattle. But she risked it and it worked for a while... then, once again, it went off track. She got it back up, and now she doesn't use it
Well, now I've moved to California... and once summer rolls around, I know I'm going to want to roll that bad boy down, I hate AC, But I'm certainly not gonna LEAVE the dang thing down in the middle of the city!
Does anyone have ANY suggestions on what to do to fix the stupid thing for GOOD, or AT LEAST point me to a better place to look??? I heard this is a common problem with 96 Civic's. I'M SO FRUSTRATED!
Here's to your help!

Without seeing the car first hand i don't think anyone on this site going to be able to help you. Most repair shops repair windows, call around to a couple of shops and ask if they offer this type service. There are so many things that could be wrong, so take it to a shop.

How is this not a "waste of space"??

Questions about a 96 with window problems that are probably because of how old the damn car is...

I'd ask where a moderator is in here, but it would more than likely get locked like the other thread that asked where someone was...

FALKEN relax dude. I think we should help him regardless of the fact that his is a sixth gen civic. You never know, this could happen to you or I in a couple of years.
Now if baybaerey was talking about a GM for Ford...flame away.

Btw baybaerey, I don't know how to solve your problem. Perhaps someone else on this site can post something meaningfull...

It sounds like the motor is "tired" or dying. This lets it slip and get off track.

My opinion.......sell the car and get a 7thgen

Geez guys, give baybaerey a break!

baybaerey: You have a sixth generation Civic. I'm sure you already know that this site was made in honor of the seventh gen Civic and that is why you haven't been given a straight-forward answer. My guess to your problem would have to be the same one as above about the window motor going out ("tired"). I wish I had the correct answer.Try going to superhonda.com. Click on the web forum section then click on the Civic forum. You'll have to join, but it is worth it because this forum covers all generations of the Civic.

But whatever.. you made me laugh so I'll go easy on you... but be forwarned.. don't mess with a Puerto Rican girl
Anyways... I searched and searched online for a place for an answer about my dumb Civic but couldn't find anything. this was the closest I could find. But I'll check out that other place you suggested. Thanks! I really appreciate it.

And in response to the sell it comment... Ohhhhhhh if only.. But I dont think I'd buy a Civic... I'd buy one of the new EX Coupe ACCORDS.. DAYUM! Heated seats... ugh. TO DIE FOR! Stick, of course.. but THESE ones will be the 6 speed ones... *sigh* OOPS! Was I drooling?

That happend to me when I had my '97 DX coupe. I popped the door panel off and noticed at the bottom of the window track a bolt had come loose causing the window to slide out. I put the window back in the track and tightend the nut up and it never happend again. I think it will loosen up over time on any car, it's just a matter of when.

Alright Flaken, now you can be as pissy as you want about missie here not having the same kind of car you do, it is a 7th generation site, I get it, she gets it. But as for your worries about SHE being a SHE - COME ON! As a bona fide, and good lookin' SHE - I change my own oil, my own brakes (front and rear), keep my hoses supple at all times, have changed out a radiator, done 4 timing belts (Take that!!!), half-shafts a-plenty, and even thought I am only 27, can claim to have flushed a carburator and modified it to run sweet and strong -- and that's not an exhaustive list. I am a basic good all around SHE-shade tree mechanic. So when your 7th generation civic gets a few years on HIM and you are spending all your money running to the dealer for every little thing, or spending even more money buying a new car, I'll be happy and trouble free, and living large in my well-oiled, sweet-looking SHE-machine. HA!!!

baybaerey,

I know the problem that you have because I had it too...my 97 has the same issues, and it's basically the window coming off its rails inside the door. The problem with this is that it's a frequent issue for our model type. Usually to fix it, you need to replace both the left and right rails, the weather stripping, and sometimes the regulator on the window handle (if manual crank, if not, same thing for an automatic window). So it's a bothersome thing.

Basically remove the speaker, remove some screws in the door pockets, small door pocket, small screw inside the door handle, the door handle itself, remove the clamp that's right underneath the crank (if manual windows, right where it meets the door), pull off the crank, then pop off the interior door cover. There might be a plastic weather guard inside the door, just pull that off. Try not to rip it if you want to put it back on later. Then, try and manipulate the glass from inside the door and get it back on track. You'll have to put everything back in reverse order.

The regulator is just about the same price as if you were to buy it from Honda, so don't bother looking for one at a junkyard. The whole thing would cost about 200.00 from Honda to be repaired, so it's expensive for a small issue.

If you need any help, please PM me and I'll see what I can do.

FALKEN, there ARE other members on this site that don't have 7th gens, and I am one of them. We're all auto enthusiasts and share that interest, whether it's a Civic, Toyota, Acura, or whatever. Bear this in mind when you waste space flaming other people, which is a NO NO in the terms of service. Right? Thanks. That is all.
