2001 Honda Civic Problem
Hi, I have a 2001 Honda Civic. For some reason, it's making a strange noise when I have my temperature turned to hot. It does not matter if the fan is on. It only happens either when I hit the gas after a complete stop, and it usually stopps after it hits 2000 rmps. Also, you can reproduce the noise when you have the car in park and just step on the gas lightly, it will come on and go away after you reach above about 2500 rpms.
Any help?

So....what does this noise sound like? And it only makes it when the temperature is all the way hot? Does it do it more if the fan is on, or does it sound the same whether the fan is on or off? Does it make a difference if the A/C is on?

The noise is the same whether the fan is on or off, it happens when the temperature is set all the way to the red zone. I can't really describe the sound, it almost sounds like a combination of water rushing through pipes and then some clicking noise. It's not too loud, you can cover it up with the radio turned on.
And the A/C doesn't matter.

Can you tell where it's comin from? Is it coming from the engine bay? Or maybe the vents? Can you narrow it down to the passenger side or drivers side of the car? I've heard of a similar problem in a 98 civic. When the **** was turned all the way to hot, you'd hear a noise right when you'd press the accelerator. It almost sounded like something dragging the ground under the passenger floor board. Turns out it was just the heater coils warmin up or something.
Your hearing air bubbles comming through the heater core when you open the coolant value (turn the heat to RED). I've tried many times to bleed this air out but can't get it all. Consider it a feature.

The noise is coming from the passenger side floor. I've read somewhere that it I should add some water pump lubericant?
Captain, that's what mine sounds like, a gargle from the passenger side floor.

I wouldnt worry about it. I dont think its anything wrong. But if there is someone out there who can correct me, please do. I used to be worried about mine but i just ignore it now.

The car has been at the Honda dealer already, since it is still under warrenty. They've checked all the major parts of the car and found nothing wrong. I took it back today and they scheduled an appointment for me with a Honda engineer monday. One of their more experienced mechanics told me it probably isn't a big issue at all, probably just some little minor defect in the water pump.

One q's no body has asked, do you have a CAI cause i was having a noise from the passenger side and it sounded like a vibrating noise and i fix, It was a cord vibrating against my intake and i also tightened one bolt where it attaches to the engine.
That water gurgling sound is a common occurrence in our cars. I heard it a couple of times when I first got the car 18 months ago, but it's gone now. On my car, the sound was coming from behind the glove compartment... if you pull down your glove compartment, you can see there is a large tube where the coolant passes through. It's nothing to worry about.

im having a similar problem...but mine is with my AC. Everytime I turn on my AC, I hear a loud noise and it stops right away when i turn off the AC. I think my car getting broken into a few monthes back might have something to do with it. They stole my cd player and pulled out my air vents to get to it. I don't have the $ to afford to get it fixed right now...but I was wondering if anyone might have any ideas what it might be.
thanks,
aurora

The gurgling water sound is water and air running through your heater core. Its normal, the only way would be to bleed the cooling system of all air specifically in the heater core.
