Clutch Clicking...

Just wanted to know if this was normal... but my clutch clicks upon engagement. Which also holds true for the rest of the pedals, if I'm not mistaken. Could you boys and girls please confirm that there's nothing wrong with my 2K2 Civic?

Thanks,

PiCASSO

The clutch clicking is very common on 01's. It's from your clutch master cylinder and the only way to fix it is to replace the cylinder. Aside from the annoying click it won't affect your car in the short run. But cylinders with clicking problem will start leaking couple years down the road. See if you can get your dealer to get you a new cylinder...it's very hard to work on on the 7th gen and most dealer will try to turn you away by greasing the clutch mechanism or replacing your return spring but the problem will come back.

The only click I hear comes from the safty switch on the clutch pedal, it there so you can't start it unless the clutch is engaged.

I have started to get creaky sounds from the clutch pedal, like an old rocking chair or something. Sometimes it squeaks like a mouse too. When my daughter is in the car she says, "what's that", everytime I depress the clutch. I am due for an oil change so I am going to have them take a look while I am there.

Well, the clicking on the clutch occurs on the way up, while the brake clicking occurs on the way down. Speaking of breaks: I had my rotors machined, after 30,000 km (18,500 miles), by the dealership and under warranty. Recently, I started to hear creaking sound coming from slow breaking like if my car was sitting outside for a few months. But this occurred twice after 15-20 minutes on the road. And the hard thing is that it's not consistent, where it would creak (squeak) for 5-7 times in break application, and then nothing? This inconsistancy is really getting to me.

Going back to the clicking of the clutch/brake, I'm not sure how or if my dealer will handle it, but last thing I want is to have my primary clutch cylinder failing on me AFTER the warranty expires.

How much would it cost to fix the clutch noise?

Well, I hoping that the clicking has nothing to do with the master cylinder... and it would only require a new clutch pedal to solve the problem. But I'd like a confirmation from more people that this is a consistent issue from 7th Gen Civic owners. If it is a master cylinder issue, I remember this sh*t happening to my '96 Z24, where I didn't know about the problem till it was too late. One cold November morning, I got in my car and found ZERO pressure on my clutch. I had to pump it up for about 10-minutes before I could engage 1st gear. Anyways, turns out the master cylinder was leaking and cause damage to my fly-wheel. The total repairs, including labour and parts (new flywheel) was a little over $1,100 CDN, and that was 3 years ago. Quite honestly, I'm simply going to take this car in to the dealership and b*tch again. I think they are getting sick of my complaints, but last thing I want is to be dishing out $1000+ for a warranty corrective action.

My car does the SAME exact thing and it drives me nuts! I've taken it in 3 times...the first two they lubed the clutch and said it was fixed, the 2nd time they checked my brakes and they were fine...about a week ago they replaced the Master Clutch Cylinder...and two days later it started up again, even worse this time...I gotta take it back again...I'm starting to wonder if there is anything they can do about it, or if it's something I just have to learn to live with...My car only has 7K miles too!

The clicking will only occur the first time I engage the clutch and brake, or just the brake after shifting into neutral, when I hit the end of my street (small street, I live at the end of a cul-de-sac)...any other ideas what it could be?

Mine sounds like a rocking chair. It doesnt do it all the time, but every once in a while it does it whether the car is on or off. Is that under warranty, or would the dealer say I have to but a new master cylinder?

2001 Honda Civic LX clicks too

When I engage the clutch it clicks and now it clicks in second gear as well. Car drives great and no problems as of yet. It has been clicking for about a year.

Theres a adjustment nut on the clutch pedal, I messed with that a bit, and got rid of some of the play.

My brake pedal makes clicking noises also. Notice it when hot. Had Honda fix it. They lubed something last summer. Now it's clicking and worse. Sounds like a 2 separate clicks when I press down on the brake padal. Sounds like a crunching noise. Makes a noise when I turn on the car also. I noticed some play in the brake pedal shaft. I can hear and feel the noise inside the car. Anyone have any ideas? Could it be the master brake cylinder?

I've had the brake clicking noise. You need to figure out if the noise is outside (at the wheels) or inside (under the dash). The inside noise may be the brake light relay. I had mine replaced and no more clicking. If the noise is outside, the techs will likely tell you that in the 7th gen the brake pads have a little play in the calipers, by design, and that clicking sound is them setting the first time you brake. It should not happen every time you press the brake pedal, just the first time. I've come across some threads here where people have solved that problem by getting aftermarket pads.

Brake pedal assembly noise CLICK / CRUNCH

No the noise is inside. I already know about the brake pad noise outside.

The brake pedal assembly seems to be clicking/crunching when hot. Sound is inside the car under the dash somewhere on brake pedal assembly. I had the car off and was pushing the pedal with my hand and if I push it slowly enough I hear/feel a couple of quick clicks which sounds like a crunching noise. The brake pedal switch make a click and I think the spring makes a click also. You can kind of feel it. Should I try lubricating the switch and spring? What else can be lubed? Should I use grease?

I read somewhere on the www.honda-acura.net forums that EL owners have the same problem.

Pull the cover off under the steering column. Stick your hand up and find the top of the pedal and the return spring. Slobber lithum grease on the spring.... kick the pedal 10 times to work the grease into the coils the noise should stop. All you hear is the spring coils binding.

OK. I'll try greasing the spring and things...I took it to Honda last summer and they lubricated something. I'll have to dig up the workorder to see what they did...

I have the same issue folks, i noticed it only happens when the car is cold, once it warms up, the clicks go away. i brought it in the dealer, they replaced the clutch master cylinder. If fact i got the car back just yesterday. so this morning when i go to work. guess what, the clicks are still there..should i even bother to take it back.

Don't know if I'd call mine a click or a squeek...but it sounds like something needs lubed up. That was my initial thought when I first noticed it.

I had the same problem with my 05 civic too. I brought to the dealer and they fixed it for me.. I will copy exactly from bill they gave it to me.
" customer states when going in reverse and then going into drive. When he hits the brakes he hears a loud clicking noise."

"The noise the customer is hearing is the front brake pads shifting. American Honda considers this is a normal characteristic. Technician applied molykote to front brake pads to help lessen the clicking noise."

Since then, the problem goes away... I dont hear anymore clicking sound.. HOpe this helps...

I have an 02 Ex and the clutch has been clicking and making these rocking chair noice. I have had it taken to the dealership for it to be fixed and they turned me away. they said there is nothing wrong with it, its still working, it still changes gears. i had to pay diagnostics, but i told them that they cant check this kind of a problem with diagnostics so i had to pay half the price. we all have similiar problems but who has the fix it, proposition.

Yep the rocking chair is what I have too. I really only notice it when I don't have my music up...which is pretty rare.

I have the squeek that comes from the engine bay (outside) and the rocking chair/grind from the clutch pedal (inside)... the thing is, I CAN feel the goddamn grind in my foot when I press down on the pedal. I'm gona have Honda look at it sometime in the next week, I'll post any updates.
