weird smell form air conditioning

Sometimes when I turn on my A/C it smells like a barn. You know the smell im talking about, it smells like, hay, horses, manure, all those wonderful barnyard smells. Does anyone know why it smells like this? Is something leaking? Was my car raised on a farm?
Thanks!

This is a common problem with hondas, the techs who built the car on the assembly line like to take dumps in the vents. It keeps them from having to leave their stations and they can pump out more cars that way.

Maybe you need to replace the ac filter in the glove compartment. Look in your manual.

if you use the a/c you should turn off the recirc. button and run the fan for a moment before you turn off the car. it'll help get rid of moisture in the ventillation system that causes nasty odor-spewing organisms.

Now what really happens is that mositure gets set on your filters and inside your AC system and when it doesnt get blown out it turns to mildew, which is that musky smell that you have, the only real way is to either air your car out with everythign closed and some sort of anti bacterial sparay on the inside to circulate through yoru system or take it in to your dealership so they can use a detergent to wash out your whole ac system, sometimes this makes problems worse and they only do it for free once.

This only happens to me every once in a while. A weird *** smell comes out of the air conditioner. It's not a normal smell though. It kinda burns your nose. Then it goes away after a while. Maybe it's just me.

on my 89 chev truck which uses the old r6 freon, you do not get the smell, but on my 97 chev and my 2002 honda you get a faint smell once you shut the a/c off, i believe this is just the new cfc freon that they use and that it is completely normal, my 2001 chev work truck also has the exact same smell.
