the new honda's
the new honda's
How do ya'll like your hondas. the reason i am asking is because i am looking at getting one. Which should be better auto. or stick. My dealership has a red civic with a razzi body kit, euros,18" koning toxxin's, custom leather interior graphics, and red neons under it. all for 21500. Is this a good deal?
If at all possible go with a 6th generation CIVIC. This car has some annoying problems. Common complaints on this site are leaky struts, slipping shifter (in manual), interior rattles (not uncommon but noneltheless pesky), stalling problem and rough idling. If you don't mind having to return to the dealer regualarly for some tweaking you'll be happy with this car. If you are into aftermarket modification you'll find it's a little limited right now, although it's starting to pick up as of late. What else are you considering? The only other cars in this class I think worth looking at are the "Protege5" and "Corolla S". If it's anything other than those two and you really want a CIVIC you can roll the DICE with this one. I'd avoid anything like a FORD FOCUS (problems like crazy), MITSUBISHI LANCER (no power), HYUNDAI ELANTRA (poorly built) or NISSAN SENTRA (good car but showing it's age big time!).
As far as the deal on the car you're looking at. Third party modifications actually decrease the value of the car it does not increase it (authorized factory mods are the exception). I wouldn't invest that much in a car like that especially if you don't know where it came from. If you're gonna spend 21,5 why not just go out and get the car that the CIVIC deep down wants to be, the ACURA RSX? And isn't doing the mods yourself more fun?

A 2002 may have most of the first year bugs already dealt with which is good. Realize though, that if you buy this car that it's worth substantially less than what they're selling it for. Kellys Blue Book doesn't see any value in those mods. The dealer knows that somebody will probably pay more for anyway though. This car's true value is closer to it's invoice right now. Does it have any miles on it?.
Ya, like he said, the 2002's are much less problematic than the 2001's. Most of the 1st year glitches have been ironed out of the 02's. But DON'T pay what they're asking for. That 21,500 price seems kinda high... that's in US dollars, right?
And the dealer may actually be willing to give you a better price, cuz with those mods, it might be a bit harder to sell to a regular customer.
If it's an EX, and if you can bargain it down a few thousand, AND if those mods are what you want, then it might be a good deal.
I'm not too crazy about how the new Corolla looks. And the body kit on the "S" trim looks really bad..... the huge gaps on those things look like they were bolted on as an afterthought.

I agree on the body kit for the TOYOTA looks like it was forced on just to appease the aftermarket crowd - but it's been getting excellent reviews. MOTOR TREND called it a "mini-lexus".
I would recommend a good look at the Protege5 though. It drived nice, handled well and seemed about as fast as a CIVIC EX. A protege will still garner less resale value long term than a CIVIC. Which reminds me, one of the best reasons to buy a CIVIC is LONG TERM residual value. Whether or not you feel these cars ARE actually worth what they are they appraise very well especially as they get older. I personally think the 6th gen was the CIVIC's PRIME years. That car was just perfect, as far as I'm concerned.

Agree. If you wanna stick with Honda the 6th gen Civic is the way to go. For that price I would go for a 99 Si and have some cash left over...or any late year 6th gen with low mileage. You'll have a better platform for modding and aftermarket parts support are huge. Plus the 6th gen platform has been around for some time so most if not all bugs are ironed out.
Dont even bother with the dealer added bodykit and rims. At my local dealership they have all kinds of Civics that are all fixed up like that. They have a 2002 EX 4spd auto that they are asking $22,834 because it already has an exhaust and rims installed. Come on now, if someone is going to spend that much money they should just head on over to Acura.
my car when i bought it in 2001 was listed on the sticker as 21,300. and its a lx automatic! had metal trim, honda alloys, spoiler, and all that dealer stuff, no ground effects tho. i talked em down, but lowest they would go was 18,000. so i guess it all depends on the area you live in and if you can talk em down. sounds like a better deal than mine anyway.
This seems to be the new trend, I was at planet honda buying an oil filter the other day and I saw a brand new silver ex coupe auto that they have in there for like 22K+. All it had was a bunch of stickers, projectors, altezzas and rims. I thought it was a total waste of money that someone would spend that kind of cash on a civic. Atleast get a v6 accord.. or just why not the RSX-S. I guess they figure some rich kid will walk in and buy it all fixed up already so he/she doesnt have to fiddle with it. I got my ex for 16,500 out the door. For the 6 grand extra they want. I can buy rims, a body kit, and a custom system, and custom lights. what a rip off.. the dealers need to just sell the cars and leave the aftermarket mods up to the consumer....
hehe but whats even funnier is that I saw an older guy buy it for the sticker price at the same time i bought mine lol (and he was maybe like 30 so i think he bought it for himself cause he didnt look like hed a have a kid old enough to drive it. I found that hilarious lol. ooooh he seemed really hapy about buying it too, what a tool, probably went to see fast and the furious the day before.
WhiteRiceBoi, you might really wanna look into what the demographics of sales on this car. People in their 30's are the most common buyers. People between 34 and 41 make up the largest age demographic as far as sales goes.
LOL, for a second there I thought you were implying that people in their 30's shouldn't be buying this car.
- ---- Now that's hilarious!

I'm gonna agree with whitericeboi on this one. whenever I see an old guy (30's) driving a pimped civic, I start laughing. btw, that demographic doesn't sound too accurate. I would think people between 40 and 50 would be buying it for their kids. and for the record, I'm 19, with a 2k2 lx paid off and 10 grand in the bank. my mommy and daddy DID NOT buy my car, so I don't wanna hear any 30 year olds talking ish about me.
Yeah, I see some older folks in buying Civic's but yeah they are buying sedans not the coupes like the younger crowd buys. But too me I like fixing my car up so I wouldn't buy one like they have on the show room. No show room rice for me

Yeah, I don't think anyone over the age of 30 would be caught in a "pimped out" CIVIC. Especially ones with bluelit washer nozzles or shaved emblems. People over the age of 30 probably have a much better sense of style. Hell for that matter, I don't think anyone over the age of 30 would ever call their car "pimped out." They probably have a better command of the English language.
They'd probably be more happy with a stock honda radio than one where the aftermarket radio they installed didn't even fit correctly into the dash!

The older Hondas had lesser problems. (But I'm talkin about 2nd Generation Integra and younger for example.) When cars became more complex under the hood with newer stuff, we had more problems. 7th Gen Civic is no exception. Otherwise, they're still good cars.
