2002 Civic No Crank No Start - Troubleshooting
Hi everyone,
I have an issue with what I thought was my trusty Civic. lol It has a no start no crank issue. All of a sudden I have a problem with the black terminal post, caused a no start (2 days ago). I was able to fire up with a jump start and it worked a few times. Last time I was able to start was back from the auto store. I bought a new black terminal post and installed it at home. The car has not been cranking since. I have tested and determined that battery is working. There is a full power from battery (headlights are as bright as they can be). I also purchased a new jump pack and tried to crank, but no success. I tried to clean the grounds underneath the air intake and by intake box and the chassis. I have also looked at the fuse (#6) and it's not blown. When I try to crank the engine, I just hear a click (sounds like a relay), not a solenoid engagement as I think it'd be slightly louder. I'd hugely appreciate any help.
EDIT: I also tried to make sure if it was neutral switch. I am not 100% sure if it's faulty or not. The auto shifter in the dashboard shows right gear and tried to crank in N, and P, and also smacked the starter a dozen times, but no crank in any case.
Thanks!

how's the positive terminal clamp looking?
my girlfriend's 99 had a no crank no start and the wires coming out of the positive clamp were all corroded
you could yank the starter out and test it with a set of jumper cables and a screw driver

Positive terminal looks good. I cleaned with a sandpaper and a steel brush. I couldn't remove the air resonator box to get to the starter yet (I'm no sure how to remove the green clip).
EDIT: I found a video that mentioned how to remove that clip, so I will give that a try.
Can I engage the starter while it's mounted? I don't want to remove all 2 bolts on it if the starter is not the issue. What would I need to jump to trigger the starter manually?

Re: 2002 Civic No Crank No Start - Troubleshooting
Power from positive dual feeds the engine fuseblock, one side powers everything like headlights, other side goes through a 100amp fuse and a load sensor and then feeds out to the starter and alternator.
Wrap all but very tip of your multimeter probe in multiple layers of electrical tape and test the voltage at the alternator. It should be within .01 volts of testing the battery directly.
Now have someone turn the key to start and test the voltage again.
The only fact for sure you can make is if the voltage barely drops at the alternator or doesn’t drop at all then you most likely have a bad starter.
Next step if you see large voltage drop would be to take the battery to get it properly tested. Then it’s all about finding the elusive gremlin if not a battery issue.

Thanks, I will try to give that a shot. I am worried I may have to tow to a mechanic. I hope it's the starter as it is the simplest and less expensive fix. I wonder if the starter and the solenoid is busted all together since there is no click or starter motor spinning. I hope it's not something else other than the starter.
Edit: I will try to remove the air resonator box and the damn green clip on it. lol I will then apply power to the starter manually to see if it is in fact busted.

No, I am talking about this green clip that is on the back of the resonator box (right side). I could not get it off.

I followed the instruction in the tutorial, but no luck.
