Red face Coolant leaking

Hi, this is my first time on a forum so im not too sure how these work but figured id give it a shot. i have a coolant leak near the driver side, rear side of the engine. i stuck a camera in there to try to see where exactly it was coming from and it appeared to be coming out of a hole that sort of looked like a plug belonged in, and it was coming out in large amounts. does anyone have a clue what this might be? I have done some research and was under the impression that this might be something called a weep hole?

Re: Coolant leaking

Did something happen like overheating?

Might be a freeze plug? Can you find a diagram of the engine online and circle about where you are talking about?

I don't think these (7th gen) engines have freeze plugs..6th gens don't, anyway.

The water-pump most likely has a weep hole (by design). If it's leaking from there it's time to replace the water-pump. Put a large (spot-free) piece of cardboard (size of engine) under your car and let it run from cold start to operating temp for 20 minutes or more. Check the cardboard to isolate area of leak. If you don't see any leaks put the cardboard back in place during cool down and check again when engine is cold.

Another possibility is the block's drain plug: drains the water-jacket that surrounds the outer pistons walls. It's located near the the driver's side under the intake manifold. It's a large bolt (IIRC 21mm) and has a one time use crush-washer. The washer is most likely the cause if it's leaking from this location . Did anyone do a drain and fill recently and remove that bolt/washer? Cardboard will help identify that location also.

Overheating does occur and i believe the leaking starts idI say about when it starts to warm up, I have the video but I'm not sure how to upload it to show you guys. I just bought this car so I'm not sure what work has been done to it up till this point.

Re: Coolant leaking

Almost certain it will be the weep hole off of the water pump.

Re: Coolant leaking

I hope the previous owner didn't just offload this vehicle to you with a bad head gasket - which is common in these engines. Lots of info for you on failed head gaskets on this site.

Re: Coolant leaking

Fire your camera-man..lol.
A bit tough to get a reference point form all the camera motion and it's hard to tell if you're above or under the engine from the halfway point onwards in that video. Looks to be the water-pump weephole but a view from underneath would be helpful. Similar to this:

Re: Coolant leaking

OEM waterpump will last much longer than generic, a asani is comparable for bit cheaper.

Unhappy Broken Water pump bolt

okay so i ran into another issue, while replacing the water pump a bolt holding in the water pump has snapped off, i do plan on extracting it but does anyone know where i can purchase new bolts at? i called Oreilly's and Autozone but neither of them had the bolts? where would i be able to buy new ones? or will i have to try to proceed with 3 bolts instead of 4?

Re: Coolant leaking

Looks like there are two different lengths being called out, both are M6 flange bolts (22mm and 30mm in length). Both of the Honda part numbers are below, you will have to decide which you need. You could also go to any hardware store and find an M6x1.0 flange bolt that is 22mm or 30mm long depending on what you need.

Thank you for the information man, really appreciate it. looking over the bolts one of them were shorter so i believe it snapped cause while i was trying to torque it in, it might have been in the wrong hole

Re: Coolant leaking

Should be using Honda coolant which is blue.
You can buy it in pre-mixed jugs at the dealer.

I use normal coolant in my cars but don't tell anyone

Re: Coolant leaking

OP: when you install the water pump follow the service manual's torque specs and crossing pattern. Also, would be a good time to install a timing belt kit if it's near the scheduled (service manual) mileage/years.
