Replacing ISB, what else?
Replacing ISB, what else?
First off, I hope this is in the right forum... There are way more options here than other forums I visit...
I recently bought a 2004 Civic LX with 160k miles which had transmission noise from the test drive. Talked down the price and got a great deal on it. Pinpointed the noise to the input shaft bearing, and I'm going to replace that now that the weather is getting better here in PA. That got me thinking, with 160k miles on the tranny, should I replace any other bearings while I'm in there? I'm concerned the failed ISB caused problems with other bearings due to shaft misalignment issues, so I'd like to take care of that now and never have to pull the transmission again... Has anyone changed their ISB themselves and swap'd out other bearings while they were in there? Or should I just go in there and check everything out before buying any other parts? My syncros seem okay, but if they have any major wear I'll probably swap those out too. I have my truck to drive while the civic is up on the stand, but i'd like to minimize the time this takes if the parts aren't in stock and I need something mid-job.
At minimum, I'm doing the ISB, but I'm thinking of buying the 4 other ball bearings I can see on the tranny parts list(2 on the diff, 1 on the mainshaft, and 1 on the countershaft). There are tons of other needle bearings that I'd replace if they seem worn as well..
FYI i'm also replacing the clutch and any oil seals I remove too.
Any suggestions is appreciated! Thanks!

Re: Replacing ISB, what else?
should probably change as many bearings as you can when you have the case open, definitely do all the main ones though

Re: Replacing ISB, what else?
I only replaced my ISB as a preventive item since I planned on replacing the seal infront of it anyways.
Not sure how many bearings you can pull off without a press.
Freezing the ISB below 0 degrees F allowed it to drop in without any hammering. And don’t start putting the shift cover back on till you have done your final main case torque. Silly thing blocks a couple bolts..

Re: Replacing ISB, what else?
Luckily I have a bearing puller and press, so I should have all the tools I need. I think I'll stick with my plan on replacing all the ball bearings, then replace the bad synchros and needle bearings I find.
