AC compressor clutch/pulley issue
AC compressor clutch/pulley issue
So i had a bad bearing in my ac compressor clutch pulley which i was able to remove but due to funds I had to fix it right away so i bypassed the ac for 2 months. I finally got around to ordering a new pulley and clutch plate off ebay and am trying to get the pulley back on but i'm unable to get it all the way on. Any ideas of what I can do to get the pulley all the way on so that I can install the snap ring, clutch plate and nut?
Re: AC compressor clutch/pulley issue
You could try heating the pulley up to say 250 degrees in the oven, it will take good 30-45 minutes to heat up.
Then using oven mitts, take from the oven and hopefully it will glide right down the shaft.

Re: AC compressor clutch/pulley issue
Well the damn thing is halfway and i can't pull it off lol. I was thinking of taking a heat gun to it with some liquid wrench and then tapping on it with a rubber mallet.
If you think a good mechanic is expensive, try hiring a bad one

Re: AC compressor clutch/pulley issue
Rubber mallet and a block of wood usually works for me when I do them in the car, alternate side to side so the pulley doesn't go crooked and jam up
Snout may have had a little corrosion from being exposed to the elements, should have cleaned that up with some emery cloth or similar .......
maybe some penetrating oil could help now.....
Tap the pulley back off, and start over?

Yeah I would like to do that. I'm gonna take off the washer fluid reservoir to give me more room to work. My plan is to get this done either tonight or tomorrow...unfortunately I work until 6:30pm and have two young kids at home.
