Water leak driver a pillar

I noticed a musty smell after the rain the other day and found driver floorboard carpet was wet.

I checked sunroof drains and both draining ( even though only leak is on driver side as noted ). Pulled trim off a pillar had water in it.

After noticing above I confirmed then wasn't ac drain. Did check it though it is draining properly.

Any suggestions or common issues anyone knows of?

Problem solved! Found leaking around windshield sealant. Have to apply Air psi while pouring water... now to remove the windshield and reseal...

I had one that was leaking just below the lower corner of the glass in the fender area, drivers side, filling the drivers floor......was leaking due to dried out cracked seam sealer.....sorry no pics

"investigating"?

So, you guys know how to remove a windshield without damaging it, and replacing the sealant?

Best be damn sure the glass has to come out before attempting anything. This thread deals with a body seam leak, apparently not a windshield problem.

If ANYTHING has to be done with a windshield, we (our shop) have a glass company come out and do that.

Re: Water leak driver a pillar

I was going to say, I witnessed my first windshield replacement this year. Granted, the old windshield was already broken, but he sure messed it up taking it out.

So, to get to this particular body seam, do you get to it from the inside, by removing the dash?

Thanks for the education. I was selling my tools from my motorcycling days (past), but I think I had better keep them and learn to work on this car.

The car I did....the bad spot was visible from the outside (with the hood up), and fixed by smearing new seam sealer compound all over the bad spot. The fix sounds easy but the source of the leak sure wasn't easy to find.

Then ripping out the interior to dry all the carpet before it milidewed.

Replacement carpet is probably one place it is okay to skimp on aftermarket?

Re: Water leak driver a pillar

I've never installed aftermarket carpet in a Honda, but I did one in a mid 90s Chebby truck many moons ago and it wasn't too bad...not as smooth to install as a factory carpet, but for the cheaper price you can probably forgive some things.

You could pull all the carpet out and clean it however you feel appropriate: Disinfect, bleach, baking soda, Fru-fru juice, pressure washer, mean green clean machine.... The padding on the back of the carpets will hold A LOT of water, and so can the sound deadener foam or padding on the firewall. I've hung carpets on boards in the shop, washed, then let them hang and dry overnight with several fans on them.

The floor will hold a lot of water too, even after carpet is pulled out. Shop vac, fans,

If any exposed wiring (splices, grounds) and connectors or ends got wet you will want to dry thoroughly and clean out any corrosion from the terminals, and probably do something to prevent future corrosion.

Actual photo of the actual leak car in carpet drying mode...seats out, partial carpet pull (all of the drivers side and part of the passengers), you can see boards holding up the carpet:

Re: Water leak driver a pillar

I had this third gen for a while. I was desperate for transportation, and this was in paper for $700 (I think).
It was a one-owner, but they lived up in Minnesota... When I got it, you could only fill the tank 1/2 full, because there was a leak. I replaced the tank, but with all of the weight of a full tank of fuel, it began making strange noises. I later found out that it might have been motor mounts. ? ANYWAY, one day I come out to go somewhere, and I am greeted by the third picture! Yeah, I had some water inside...
