Question Looking for ignition diagram (NOT wiring)

I'm looking for a diagram that shows how the steering wheel locks on a 7th gen Civic. I know where the locking cylinder and spring are, but I am not sure of the actual shape of the locking cylinder.

I think this is the correct part #35100-S5A-A82

Thank you for any help!

Re: Looking for ignition diagram (NOT wiring)

According to my catalog......Your part number 35100-S5A-A82 is the steering lock assembly and includes the electrical switch, 2 keys, immobilizer CU, screws, 2 breakaway bolts and a bracket.
Keys and immobilizer will have to be programmed to the PCM before the engine will run.

I assume yours jammed up the (sidewinder) key because the tumblers wore out?
I retumble those locks quite often at work.

Yeah I believe the tumblers are worn. I plan on replacing the whole ignition assembly when the money is right, but I've been working on a temporary solution.

I used
to bypass the tumblers and start the car with a screwdriver (still have to have key in immobilizer). The steering wheel was still locked and so I drilled out the spring that pushes up the steering wheel lock mechanism (similar to this DIY).

Everything works (very ghetto like), but I am trying to completely remove the locking cylinder so it doesn't bounce up and lock the steering wheel while I am driving (a concern presented in the last link).

I actually used that website to determine what I thought was the correct part # for the ignition assembly.

Re: Looking for ignition diagram (NOT wiring)

Instead of drilling the lock assembly, just remove the whole thing.......I use a punch and hammer to unscrew the two breakaway bolts (#3 in the parts diagram) that secure the lock assembly to the steering column.....after they are loose I can spin them out.

You gotta do this to replace the thing anyway, may as well do it now.

Re: Looking for ignition diagram (NOT wiring)

Yes, I know how to remove the ignition assembly. Why would I remove it if I am not intending to replace it right now though?

I am simply asking for a diagram of the ignition. Not a diagram of how the ignition attaches. As I stated before in another reply, I do not have the money to replace the part right now, this is why I have rigged it this way in the first place. Now I am asking for help with the internals of a specific part. Thanks though.

Re: Looking for ignition diagram (NOT wiring)

Maybe this info would help you:

https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/rcl/201...2V573-9457.pdf

This will show much of the lock cylinder breakdown and the how to, but not the steering column lock internals.

You already know how to make it run, stick key through immobilizer ring (control unit) and twist ignition switch with a screwdriver.....

I figured if you want to permanently disable the column lock simply removing the complete unit from the column disables the lock so there is no chance of the steering wheel locking while driving.
