Busted Power Steering Line

Hi all,

If you haven't saw my first thread on this forum, be advised that this car is a nightmare and was given to me/my girlfriend as a gift.
One of the main issues I've noticed is that the power steering is kaput and it's all due to a busted return line that leaks like mad and these other connected components:
- 53732-S5D-A52/A05 (part no. 8; return hose)
- 53720-S5D-A01 (part no. 5; return pipe)
- 90635-S5A-A02 (part no. 14; hose clip)
- 95701-06012-08 (part no. 20; flange bolts)

Also, a buddy of mine noticed that the return hose clamp (53747-S5D-A00, part no. 11) is so rusted that it'd snap apart once aggravated.

It's mostly at the end closer to the steering rack where the leak exists. I'm not sure if the hose itself just isn't secure or if the metal connecting piece is cracked... I honestly wouldn't be surprised if the latter is the case.

My question to you all is, is there a temporary fix for the leak? Have any of you replaced this particular part before and have any advice?

Re: Busted Power Steering Line

What's broke/leaking, a rubber hose or a metal pipe?

If hose joint at that fitting, they do seep as they age and I sometimes tighten the clamp if it isn't already bottomed out
Spray clamp with rust buster, see if it will tighten up.
Or replace clamp with ordinary worm-type hose clamp from parts store

Return line is low pressure

Re: Busted Power Steering Line

I honestly can't tell if it's a rubber hose or that metal fitting. When it leaks, leaks at the end of the rubber hose where it meets the metal fitting. I figured it was a low pressure line based on research.

I will spray the clamp with some rust blaster and see if I can tighten it or get another one. The clamp looks rusted to crap though so I need a plan b if it like... shatters like glass the second I try to touch it lol

So metal fitting is probably not cracked, but hose doesn't fit tight on it anymore.
It's probably loose enough you can twist (rotate) the hose on its fitting.

This style clamp is dirt cheap and should be in stock at just about every parts store on the planet. There are several variations of this design and a whole bunch of different sizes.

You can unscrew this clamp all the way open, then wrap it around the hose, then reassemble the clamp, all without removing the hose from the fitting and spilling all the fluid.

Re: Busted Power Steering Line

Understood. Hopefully I'm able to get the clamp on the hose now OFF without any problems. I have some pictures of that particular area of the line in my archives somewhere, I'll post them tomorrow
