Rep Power: 0 Major oil leak discovered when replacing water pump
My son bought an 01 LX and whiten two days it overheated. It had no water in it so I filled it up and when thermostat open and let water flow all the water came out around timing belt cover. I suspect a bad water pump. I had time today so I was going in to change timing belt and water pump and discovered oil all over lowers portion of timing belt area.
1. Does the water pouring from timing belt area sound like water pump.
2. I am going to replace the following items.
Timing belt
Timing belt tensinor and spring
Camshaft seal
Crankshaft seal
Oil pump o-ring
Oil pan gasket
Water pump
Valve cover gasket.
Is there anything else I should replace.
3. Someone recommended replacing oil pump. It is very expensive part that seems to work well. Seems overkill to me but am open to suggestions. I think just replacing o-ring is way to go.

Re: Major oil leak discovered when replacing water pump
that is the only thing in that area i can think of that could possibly leak coolant, and going by the orange silicone, it looks like somebody has removed the oil pan in the past

Re: Major oil leak discovered when replacing water pump
There's one more you can knock off while the valve cover is off and its the round plug/seal opposite the camshaft seal (where the distributor would be if it had one). This way you eliminate all possible leak areas!
Other than that sounds like you got all your bases covered

If you think a good mechanic is expensive, try hiring a bad one
