2003 manual grabs shifter stuck

21600 miles Honda Civic ex Manual transmission . I've been the sole owner and a huge fan with few maintenance issues over the life of the vehicle. Never had any clutch issues until now. Shifter won't move with clutch in. Shifter will move into any gear with the clutch out. Prior to this happening I noticed that at times shifter was a little hard to move at times and clutch was squeaky. Shop said I may need a new clutch and that it will be over $ 1000 to repair. They said if I don't repair they will offer me $ 250.00 to take it off my hands. I feel like I am being taken for a ride. ( single female here ) Does it sound like I need a whole new clutch? what should that run ? Should I fix it and sell it or just sell as is? Any issues with me driving it a few miles down the road with kit traffic just to get it off this shops lot while keeping it in first gear? THanks all. I've never replaced clutch on this

$1000 seems like a lot for a clutch job,

Book time to pull the trany is listed at 6.6 hours at $120 that's $960 for labor alone.

Quote seems right for my neck of the woods.

If you think a good mechanic is expensive, try hiring a bad one

Re: 2003 manual grabs shifter stuck

and clutch was squeaky.
Might not need a clutch at all...could just be the master cylinder making noise--there's a TSB about it.
