Power steering issues 05 em2

So I bought my em2 in March of this year (2016) I use my car for deliveries about 5 days a week. My power steering pump will wine loudly at times and other times not at all. I've done a great deal of searching and I'm seeing a whole lot of suggestions but no definitive answers. While the engine is running with car in park and can see inside of the fluid reservoir and it is flowing. I'm not getting foam or anything coming out. Fluid level stays unchanged all the lines coming in or out of the reservoir and pump are clean and dry, even the lines that I can see going into the rack it self. Kind of at a loss of what could be causing this problem. It's intermittent and doesn't always do it. Car has 206k on it, one owner car and all service records show it being serviced at a honda dealer. Really want to solve this issue and make the car last as long as it can.

Re: Power steering issues 05 em2

Empty out the reservoir and see if the fine mesh screen in the bottom has a bunch of residue or trash caught in it. A restricted screen can cause pump whine.
Maybe you can tilt it on its side and see into the bottom, IDK.

Replace reservoir if necessary and refill with Honda compatible power steering fluid (never use ATF)....I'd also flush the old fluid out by pumping a quart or two through the system with the engine running, into a drain bucket while spinning the steering wheel from lock to lock, before reconnecting the return line to the reservoir fitting.
(this is a 2 person job, one to start the engine and turn the steering wheel, the other keeps pouring fluid in so the pump doesn't run dry)

Thank you for the speedy reply. I will be trying this tomorrow. Fluid is semi dirty but not full on brown. Wonder if that could be an indication of anything.

Hondas power steering fluid is brownish too...

Maybe similar goldish color to some motor oils when fresh, but does turn brown in normal use.

Your steering pump would whine loudly? When I back out my garage with the radio off (cause I wanna hear every sound of my car when I start. It) I turn the steering wheel all the way to the left and it does make a sound. Idk of we're both hearing the same sounds. But I would like to know too hoe to fix that sound. Only happens when I turn the steering wheel all the way.

THAT is normal. When the steering gear hits the end of its left or right travel, the pump is putting out maximum pressure and some noise is expected.
