Breaking in a new 2k2
Actually the manual says 600 miles for breaking in the engine. 300 miles is for breaking in the brakes. Here is my advice, shift gears at 2500-3000 rpm for the first 600 miles and by all means DO NOT LUG THE ENGINE. After 600 miles your engine is pretty much broken-in but i think you should not redline it at this time. Going from 3000 to 6000 rpm after 600 miles is a too big gap. Instead, you could gradually increase your shift point every day and from time to time go to 6000 rpm only for a few seconds. I hope this is clear, racing your car after 600 miles is not good for the engine. All it needs is gradual increase in rpm.
