Breaking in a new 2k2

I just bought a 2k2 Civic LX 5 spd.....my first new car At how many miles should be the safe time to say that the engine has been broken in....

Actually the manual says 600 miles for breaking in the engine. 300 miles is for breaking in the brakes. Here is my advice, shift gears at 2500-3000 rpm for the first 600 miles and by all means DO NOT LUG THE ENGINE. After 600 miles your engine is pretty much broken-in but i think you should not redline it at this time. Going from 3000 to 6000 rpm after 600 miles is a too big gap. Instead, you could gradually increase your shift point every day and from time to time go to 6000 rpm only for a few seconds. I hope this is clear, racing your car after 600 miles is not good for the engine. All it needs is gradual increase in rpm.
