Where's the best place to get a shift solenoid?
Where's the best place to get a shift solenoid?
Background: I have a bone stock 2002 Civic EX with 221k miles. Aside from changing the ATF every 30k (last did it about 2k miles ago), there has never been anything done to the tranny.
About 3k miles ago, I noticed my transmission has been flaring from 2nd to 3rd gear, and it seems to have a long shift point between 3rd and 4th.
From what I've read this could be a bad shift solenoid. If I end up replacing it, I could get it from Advance Auto, but it'll set me back $254.
Could I trust one from a junk yard? Should I even go that route with this part?
Any other suggestions?

If you think a good mechanic is expensive, try hiring a bad one

You may as well get one from a junkyard.....that should be far cheaper than new--- and you can save the rest of your money for the transmission replacement/rebuild it will need after you find out the solenoid didn't fix it.
