Automatic trans suddenly leaking like sieve
Automatic trans suddenly leaking like sieve
I have a 2008 Civic LX with 150K on the odometer. After a recent fluid swap (about 2.7 L) the transmission is suddenly leaking like a sieve! The mechanics say it is coming from the axle seal and possibly from the center of the transmission casing, where the 2 halves seal. I used Acura transmission fluid, which is Honda and should have been compatible. These mechanics had sketchy reviews on Yelp, so now I am suspicious as to whether they are competent. They are telling me a transmission replacement is better then trying to replace gaskets that join the 2 casing halves. Before this incident, there were no leaks at all in the transmission - it makes me suspicious of the fluid I used. Is sudden failure of multiple gaskets possible? At 150K miles, it should not be having such problems. Anyone had similar experiences?

DW1 is DW1 no matter if it came from Honda or Acura.
Put axle seals in it and clean up the mess.
I've only seen one case gasket leak, it was on a late 90s prelude.
Replace your mechanic, find someone you trust.
