Weak A/C. Before I charge, any things I should check?

2005, 71K miles

A/C works OK but after this year's first REALLY hot summer days, there's no doubt it's not 100%. After driving on the highway for 10 minutes, the car is livable, so it IS working to an extent..... but the air coming out could never be called 'cold'.

My first thought: get it recharged. If it's working even a little, it should last a while.

Good idea? Stupid? Your input is appreciated, as always.

I don't get why a search of the forum didn't yield tons of posts on this. Maybe I'm searching wrong.

The search engine on here sucks IMO (maybe it's Bing) so it's possible it didn't come up.

A recharge sounds like a good step in fixing the issue. I have never recharged or had a car recharged but it seems like a common practice.

Honda AC's are not that great to start with but it should still be blowing out air cold enough to cool you down.

Stick a good (I like digital) thermometer in the center dash vent, drive around and see just how cold or warm it can get.

10 minutes may not be long enough to shed heat from the interior on a screaming hot day. The interior of the car can easily be more than 180 degrees after sitting in the sun on a hot day, and it takes a lot of time to get it all cooled down.

My 10 minute drive home on a real hot day.....barely gets me cooled off. The interior just radiates heat and the dash vents still haven't reached as cold as they can get.
