2003 Honda Civic LX will not crank

I recently inherited a 2003 Honda Civic LX, from a friend, in lieu of money that was owed to me. According to him, he had the steering column replaced and the key properly programmed. He said that it did need an alternator but would crank up and run for a short time. Upon me receiving it, I did verify that it would crank up and run but I was only able to verify it running for about 5 to 10 seconds, for 2 to 3 times. Based on this and his claiming it needed an alternator, I purchased a remanufactured alternator from a local auto parts and installed it myself. Upon completion of the installation, I attempted to crank the car but now it will not crank. I checked my connections and everything appears to still be intact. The car does appear to be getting proper fire and proper fuel but it will not completely fire over.

Is the engine ground wire missing? Since it sorta worked before you changed the alternator and now it won't start at all I would double check your work, make sure everything is hooked up.

With a good battery it should run longer then 10 seconds if it has a bad alternator. The issue might still be present.

The only wires that I disconnected during replacement, were the wires to the alternator and I have triple checked all of the connections to be sure they are as they should be

You are going to need to check for fuel and spark. A coil pack or plug could be bad. Fuel filter or injector not working/clogged.

Pull the plugs see what they look like. Check if you have fuel at the fuel rail.
