2004 Civic Rattle/Knock

Hey guys, this is my first post so excuse my errors!

I recently purchased a 2004 civic. In the last few weeks there has been a rattle/knocking noise coming from the belt area. I'm unsure what could be causing it but I'm guessing its a pulley? Any insight would be awesome! The rattle/knock seems to only occur while im idling around 800 RPM then will rattle out and be gone anywhere over 1000 RPM. Turning on and off the AC doesn't change it nor does turning the wheel. I'm virtually lost on this one but my guess is going to be the AC pulley because I can wiggle it a little bit with the belt on and I can see the outer plate occasionally move when the AC is off. Any help would be much appreciated, thanks!

Also here is a video with some audio of the sound --> https://*******/GtIb

Welcome to the forum!

Won't play in my firefox, but it does make sound in IE but can't see any video.

No clue, but I hear an unusual rattle noise.

Remove PS belt and run the engine, see if noise is still present.

Remove AC/alternator belt and run the engine, see if noise is still present.

If noise is gone, spin the pulleys by hand and listen for the rough one.
The AC pulley can be purchased separate from the compressor if need be, or you can get a short belt to bypass the compressor.

something to do with a belt or pulley,

for your sake i hope its not in your timing area,

take a close look at the crank pulley, is it wobbling while its turning?

Solved! It is indeed the AC clutch. Bearings are gone. Any idea on the price of this? Or the size of belt I need to bypass the AC and just go to the alternator?

Your prices in Canada are a bit higher than US. To get the pulley you would need part #5, the clutch set.
Installation is extra. Tools are extra too. And you have to set/adjust clutch gap during install.

Aftermarket complete compressor might SOUND like a deal, but it usually is a losing deal in the long run, as they are usually CRAP.
I always opt to fix an original Honda compressor whenever possible.

Or the size of belt I need to bypass the AC and just go to the alternator?
Factory belt for a car with no AC is part # 31110-PLA-A02
Or go to your parts store and say you need an alternator belt for your year car "DX, without AC".
