04 Civic Coupe Hood Release **** Broken off

I understand that the hood release **** breaking off is a fairly common problem. Mine broke off. Any ideas on how to fix it without having to disassemble half of the car replacing the entire cable? Thanks guys.

The plastic handle breaks off rather often......maybe because the cable needed replaced?

Fix for the lazy:

Its for sure the **** end of the cable that broke off. You can grip the stub IF you can get a hold of it and open the hood. The vise grip idea is a good one. Also saw a YouTube where a guy took like a 3/16 drill stop sleeve with a set screw in the side of it and put it on the end of the stub and walla. Ordered a set of drill stops on eBay and will see if that does the trick.

Thanks for the video! When I looked to see what it would take to replace the cable, it appeared as I recall to be allot more involved with the bumper cover than on the year model range in the video. Maybe a big change after 2000? I just wound up buying a drill bit stop collar type thingy and putting it on the end where the handle broke off and so far so good.
