2005 Civic LX key fob will not program

I recently bought a 2005 Civic LX that didn't come with key fobs. I bought new fobs on eBay and I cannot enter program mode. I've tried the sequence of Key On, Lock, Key Off numerous times and nothing happens. The driver's side door appears to have a different set of tumblers since my key will not work in that door. Any suggestions?

Does the LED illuminate on the fob when you push the buttons?

If you are doing the programming mode correctly, then my first guess would be you don't have the correct fob(s).

Re: 2005 Civic LX key fob will not program

Lights comes on each time I press it.

Is there a way to test the system?

The fobs are not OEM. They don't even say Honda on them. They claim to support NHVWB1U521 or NHVWB1U523. Someone in another forum said that Civics made in Canada use different fobs. Checked my VIN and I have the Canuck Civic. Is it possible to find the FCC code for my fob if I do in fact have the wrong fob?

Re: 2005 Civic LX key fob will not program

If you have a USA market spec car, the part numbers in the previously linked bulletin should apply. No matter where the car was built.

I have no info about FCC ID#s.

The 05 LX should have come equipped from the factory with keyless entry.

You MUST have a valid fob in order to enter keyless programming mode.
I'd suggest obtaining a genuine Honda fob for the car you have.

Ways to test the system, yes if you have a good service manual and the necessary test equipment. You could start with multiplex system testing and diagnosis.

Thanks.

I'm sending these fobs back and ordering OEM. Hope that works

Re: 2005 Civic LX key fob will not program

Told the seller and he sent me replacements that he swore would work. They were the same non-oem fobs but this time they worked. Idk why he didn't just send me the working ones the first time
