Question 2003 Honda Civic LX Blown engine

My Civic overheated last week and the mechanic recommended replacing the engine due to low compression and a lot of the componits in the engine are melted. It has 190,000 miles on it. So i called the Honda dealer and they said they found an engine with 80,000 miles on it that they can put in it. It comes with a 12 month 12000 mile warranty. Parts and labor. They can do that for 2700 dollars. My only hold up is the tranny having 190000 miles on it. What is every experience with these trannys? Should i expect it to go 300000 miles plus? What should i do in this situation. I owe about 4000 dollars on the car. Thanks

In all honesty, most used engines include the tranny, look on eBay.

Re: 2003 Honda Civic LX Blown engine

Tranny should be fine. If your overly worried about it you can probably do a full tranny rebuild for ~600 dollars. They will inspect everything and replace a bunch of bearings inside that tend to go. The problem is if they find something else wrong. I honestly thing this is a far better method than buying a used transmission and slapping it in. You will not know what your getting. Just make sure you find a really, really, really good shop to do the work, and make sure they deal only with transmissions. Also make sure they use OEM parts.
