Blinking Drive light Honda Civic LX 2004

My Honda Civix LX 2004 has 93000 miles on it .
When I put it in drive and and press on the accelerator it takes a little extra pressing to get it going and the drive light starts blinking . If I have to stop at a red light, it takes a little while for the car to move when it turns green again.
Could it just mean that it needs transmission fluid , or do i need to worry about the entire transmission being bad?
I thought Honda transmissions last for ever. Really hoping someone could throw some light on this before I take it to the mechanic . Could you let me know whatever else could be wrong other that the transmission itself , for example some wiring or fluid or minor part that needs to be replaced... fingers crossed.

D light blinking means there is a transmission related fault code.

Get the codes read, same as a check engine light.
