overheating issue and tried everything

My 2004 civic lx is overheating again. Last time it was the relay. This time around We replaced the relay, thermostat, coolant censor, fan censor and drained antifreeze and put new in. Also tried burping it and nothing happened. The fan doesn't want to kick on unless the a/c is on. It works when a/c is running. The car has 150k miles on it. Thanks for advice in advance.

your head gasket is probably blown,

does the coolant level in the overflow bottle rise up really high?

as in to the top, or possibly overflows?

that is a sure sign of head gasket failure

No it didn't, level stayed the same. There also is no antifreeze in the oil. Checked that. And no white smoke from exhaust.

My husband informed me drained only out of radiator, not a complete flush. And he put in 50/50. We have a appointment made for it to go in on Wednesday. Just hoping not to expensive fix, but have a feeling it will be. thanks for replying also.

50/50 but what brand name?

these engine are very particular to coolant type, the only thing you should be using is honda OEM blue coolant, anything other than that is a big mistake,

if you have not used honda OEM blue coolant, then the first thing i would do is drain the entire system and replace it with the blue coolant

+1 on the head gasket

Replace your head gasket. Your overheating will stop.

FYI, oil and coolant don't mix in this engine when the head gasket is blown.

If you keep the AC on (so fans run), does it still overheat?

If you jumper the 2 wires for the coolant temp switch in the thermostat housing, do the radiator fans run?
