Strange Overheating Issue - Stopped After Battery Died....
Strange Overheating Issue - Stopped After Battery Died....
I have a 2003 Honda Civic EX with about 90,000 miles.
My car was consistently overheating for 4 days in a row after I would drive on the highway and began city driving the car would steadily overheat.
I was dropping my car off at Sears overnight and after I had dropped my only key into the box, I realized I left my light on. So, Sears had to jump my car in the morning. They had called me the next day to inform me that after driving my car around, letting it idle for over an hour -- that the car would not overheat. I then drove my car around for awhile to the point it would usually overheat.... and it didn't.
I was wondering if anyone knew of a connection to the reason why my battery dying/being jumped that it would solve my overheating issue???

Re: Strange Overheating Issue - Stopped After Battery Died....
from what you have described, odds are pretty good that your head gasket is blown and you need it replaced,
but before we jump to that conclusion, a few things to try.....
with the engine COLD open the rad, is it full?....if not top it up with honda OEM BLUE COOLANT, do not use anything else,
now check the coolant level in the overflow bottle, is it between the min and max lines?.....if not top it up as nessessary,
now drive the car like you normally would, if it starts getting hot again open the hood and look at the coolant level in the overflow bottle, if that level starts getting rediculously HIGH you need a new head gasket
