ok i got a 01 civic my ac belt was squealing i was going to tighten up my belt when i noticed that the top alternator bolt was gone the long bastard does anyone know the size of that bolt and how do i got about putting a new one in it ? because it wont fit do i have to take off alt/motor mount bracket i need some help please. thanks

Gone? As in freekin missing? HOW? It can't fall out on its own. It's too long to come all the way out.

Stick something in the hole and see if part of it is still in there. Maybe it snapped the head of the bolt off. Um, that's gonna make a world of cussing for you if it did.


When I remove an alternator on one of those it's mostly during a timing belt service. I have the mount off of the timing belt area and jack the engine up as high as I can get it to safely go, that gives me enough room to get the long bolt out.

Bolt size could be 10x98 or 10x90, depends on the VIN of your car. I see maybe a dozen different possible part numbers in the catalog.

what is the thread pitch 1.25 or 1.5 and i think i may not have been put back in when i did timing belt job i am curious so i have to remove motor mount to put new bolt in ? i dont know how it went missing only thing i can think of is that it was never put back in ? how do i know it is a 90 or a 98 ? thanks for all the help

You may facepalm yourself.
If there's no way it can possibly fall out because it's too long, then there's no way it can fall in either.
You must raise the engine somehow.

If you can levitate it with your mind, that's fine....But get it on video and post it here


You gotta undo the nut from the top of the mount bracket to raise the engine. You may need to remove the bracket from the engine too, IDK.
You probably don't need to remove the mount itself from the car.
Use a parts catalog. Look it up by your VIN.

I could probably pull the alternator back and measure the bracket, judge for myself which length would work best.
