Some advice on valve cover gasket kits

Ordered a GASKET SET, HEAD COVER (12030-PLC-010) for the car from Majestic Honda... who btw, sent my new steering wheel promptly and swiftly from RI (got here to Maui in five days).

However, when I got the order, I noticed in the sealed bag of stuff (supposed to be four spark tube seals, five cover bolt washers, and the gasket), that there were only two spark tube seals. The set itself is a special order item, so it must've been borked at the Honda warehouse where these orders are fulfilled.

It's always going to be on the eve of a really needing it, that parts get ordered. As a bike tech this hasn't been a historical flaw with the Honda parts stream, nor IME Majestic's... but just to be safe and not put yourself out, do order way ahead of time. As it is, I cannot perform this job, and River, the parts mgr I've been working with at Majestic, didn't even send the tracking number for the order when it was shipped (only got an order confirmation, which says I was supposed to get an email with the tracker). Sent an email to River to send the other two ASAP. We'll see how this is handled on the other side of the world...

As a service dude, I have had past issues with parts dudes. But this time, I'm a customer. Check your parts before you touch the car.

Nope, only two in the little pack in the sealed & labeled bag, just checked. Like I said from the moto side this problem is very rare... but this time I think it might've been the human element? At any rate I'm in phone tag with Majestic as we speak...

Gotcha. The problem is rare, indeed. I haven't had any order issues from majestic, but I've since ordered from hondapartsunlimited.com, just because I'm in vegas, and they're one state over in AZ. Depending on what I order, it's sometimes cheaper by a few bucks.

I started ordering with Majestic because of their shipping costs to HI -- which ironically with the Honda parts counters I looked up online, had the lowest shipping for my steering wheel but was the furthest distance away. I'll bookmark HPU though, since for me a few bucks extra (within reason) is worth a full day of transit time. Shipping to this rock sucks.

EDIT: I've since fact-checked this re: shipping...

Added a R, FR. KNUCKLE to both carts on both sites.

Majestic charges $291.84 + $20.80 to ship in five days, all the way to HI (5000 mi as the crow flies, 5700 by road/air).

Hondapartsunlimited charges $300.18 + $43.16 from 2/3rds of the country closer to HI -- AZ -- and that's their cheapest rate.

The only advantage is a two-day-sooner transit of 2-3 days vs. 4-5 days -- which it better be (2840 mi ATCF, 2868 mi by road/air). That said, I don't think two days is worth $31 extra... so Majestic is still the better choice (5700 miles in five days AND lower prices? Fine with me).

I may've been sent a bad gasket set, but that had absolutely zero to do with Majestic's handling of the order -- it was a very rare flub at a Honda fulfillment warehouse, and it was just my turn... s**t happens, and I'm not some entitled douchenozzle thinking the world owes him anything. The parts mgr called me and graciously handled the situation -- no defensiveness from him -- and we both laughed as we understood how rare it was. Still gonna give them my money -- they seem to want to it more than HPU does.

Re: Some advice on valve cover gasket kits

Just spoke to Majestic's parts mgr this AM, all the way from RI: he'll be sending the two other spark tube grommets out today.

I appreciate speaking to someone in person, as it relieves a lot of the tension that email correspondence just gets blown off. But he seemed genuinely concerned... and also shocked the Honda warehouse, or where ever the two-short packet was packed, made that strange a mistake -- which is when I agreed and ID'd myself as a former Hondatech-rated moto tech, who'd seen this problem once in 15 years... and *that* seemed to bring the tension down even further.

I like nice, reasonable people in positions where they tend to be less nice and less reasonable. The parts guy here at my dealer is nice enough (can't/won't make any important decisions, though)... I certainly can't say the same about their service writer ($175 for a brake bleed? Get bent! ).
