Rear passenger automatic lock works intermittently

When I lock or unlock my 2001 Civic LX using the key on the outside of the driver door, the rear passenger lock sometimes moves and sometimes doesn't. I get the impression that it might need to be oiled or something. Thoughts? If it does need to be oiled, can someone give me a little guidance as to how I would do that?

Mine does the exact same thing. I would be interested to see how to fix. I do have a spare auto unit on hand, so I can replace it if need be.

Does the power window also quit at the same time?

Re: Rear passenger automatic lock works intermittently

Next time you lock or unlock watch the lock **** on the problem door.... look for any slight movement of the **** as you attempt.

Try working the lock/unlock button on closed drivers door several times and see if the rear lock **** will start moving

The actuators are more toward the center on the rear doors. Not on the latch like the fronts are.

There are no issues with the window. The **** itself does move slightly when I lock or unlock and occasionally it will actually work. Most of the time, it seems to move slightly but seems to be stuck.

That would indicate it is getting voltage

On my 05 the passenger front actuator motor got slower and slower over time.... but if I worked it several times it would work perfect until setting for about 8 hours then would be sluggish again, got to the point where on occasion it would not properly lock so I replaced it.

No lube is going to solve a weak DC motor.
