What's missing or going on in this pict?

I am looking to buy a 2003 EX and I've never owned a Civic. Below is a pict of a stock 03 engine and car 2 is the engine of the car I'm looking at. My question is: what is that misiing on the left hand side? Air intake? Any ideas on why it is missing? Is there anything that seems changed?

I appreciate any advice you can give me.

Thanks,

Pic 2 is missing the stock airbox resonance chamber. It has a red(?) tube attached to the filter housing instead.
And it has a strut bar.

Riced?

Oh yeah, I did notice (and forgot to mention) the strut bar.
That red tube is actually a rusted metal tube. So would that be a crude attempt at a cold air intake? I guess it is a bit riced up, and I am specifically looking for one that isn't. When I only saw the strut bar I figured it was just some light modification and they never got around to really tinkering with it. But maybe they have.

See anything else that stands out?

Not enough pics to prove any facts, but what I already saw is enough for me to make assumptions. (Fact or fiction is irrelevant.)

Kids, abuse, neglect?

So...Where in the heck does the red tube lead to?
That might give some indication of......

That looks pretty ghetto!

Crappy strut bar too, I would throw that one away.

I'm gonna be back in that neighborhood tomorrow I may stop by out of curiosity just to see if that tube is facing straight down with no filter. LOL

Thanks for taking the time and your opinions.

Re: What's missing or going on in this pict?

looks like they have just hung the red intake tube down behind the tranny, which will accomplish nothing except add more intake noise,

if they are dumb enough to do something like that, what else are they dumb enough to do to the car?....stay away from it
