03 Civic gear shift area noise and cruise control issues.

03 Civic gear shift area noise and cruise control issues. I start the car when it is cold. While the car is running in P, I hear a tapping underneath the gear shift. I put my foot on the brake and I can feel the tapping in the brake pedal. When I push the brake pedal the tapping stops. I shift into R or D and the tapping stops. Also now when I am driving the cruise control is not working either. This just started 3 days ago.This bothers me because I use CC a lot to keep from getting speeding tickets! The transmissions shifts pretty good.It has a slight slip from low to 2 when it is cold. It shifts fine when it warms up. Any help or ideas would be much appreciated. Thank you.
