Cost of oil change
Cost of oil change
I just got an oil and filter change at my Honda dealer. Since I bought the car there (2012 Civic LX) they say they're cutting 50% of the cost - I'm a "Platinum Club" member. Anyway the charge was $28.00 for 5 Qts. 0-20 full synthetic and filter. Is that about right? My dealer is in Springfield MO.

And your engine only holds 4 quarts.
Ours is a buck or two higher for the 5w20 oil change.
Ours is a bit higher yet for 0w20. (I want to say close to 40 McDoubles but I'm not certain.)
Try a Speedylube. You won't get out of there that cheap.
And a good chance of not getting the right oil, to boot.
PLUS unnecessary upsells.
And they won't know what your maintenance minder codes are.
Last time I checked (couple years ago), the Pennzoil Platinum Plus (or Ultra) GF-5 0w20 were the only oils of theirs that actually met Hondas specs for 0w20. This could have changed since then though.
I'm guessing if you request the proper oil by name they will charge a bunch extra for it.

Re: Cost of oil change
Just checked, just shy of 30 McDoubles for 5w20, and just shy of 45 McDoubles for 0w20.
Plus tax.

Re: Cost of oil change
FYI we have Genuine Honda branded "Synthetic Blend", and "Full Synthetic"
From their quart bottles, MSRP for Hondas 0w20 "full synthetic" is only about a dollar higher per quart than the blend. That's a whopping $4 difference for 4 quarts.
I wonder: Did he really get the real Honda branded oil?
Care to get an oil sample tested to see what is REALLY in there?
Hmmm....
Oil changes are quite often a break even job or a loss leader anyway.
If the person changing the oil makes more than minimum wage, the shop is losing money.
Upsells can be expected. Be wary and alert.
My local Harley dealer gets a little over $100 for an oil change.
