fan belt replacement

I am buying a 2004 Honda Civic from a friend (100k miles on it). Her Honda dealer told her she doesn't need to replace the fan belt until 200k? Is that really accurate? My mechanic states it has to be done at 100k. Those of you that have Honda Civics with over 100k please weight in!

Re: fan belt replacement

There is no "fan" belt.

The timing belt should be done at 105k or 7 years, whichever comes first. I recommend replacing the accessory belts at the same time as part of the job.

The dealer may have said "not until 200k" if it has already been replaced just recently. Ask them. (I would HOPE the owner of the car would remember a recent hefty bill for like a timing belt job though. Get all receipts for services and see what has been done.)
