Help lads! it died this am...

Issue: car is dead:no power
What? stock 2001 Civic EX VTEC, daily commuter, no previous elec issues before today.
Circumstances: Wife went out to drive it this am, and no power to anything.
I checked, and the light switch was apparently NOT left on.
I cleaned the batt terminals, then put my 10A charger on it to see if I could get a charge built up.
As soon as I placed the charger on the terminal, I heard a clicking type of noise that seems to be coming from the passenger side, lower-ish engine area..but very hard to tell.
Doesn't seem to be coming from a particular small area.
Did the starter get stuck in start position?
I reseated relays in fuse box just for kicks.

any ideas?

Thansks,
Rich

ok, well I broke out the crowbar & gave the starter a love tap: lo & behold the charger then provided power.
So, needless to say I'm doing a starter change.
thx,
