Standard trans- Rough gearstick shifting

Hi Civicforums!

So last night when I was driving home from work I began noticing that the stick was a bit more resistant than normal, I didn't think much of it. But today when I drove to and from work, there was a noticeable, not much, but noticeable difference in the resistance of the stick.

The resistance feels like there's a speedbump halfway from neutral to being in gear.

But here's the weird thing, this only happens with the engine running. If I'm sitting in the car, with the engine off, and playing with the stick, it shifts smooth as silk. The second I turn the engine on and start playing with the stick, it starts getting rough.

The stick is only rough for the first shift after depressing the clutch pedal. If I shift to 1st, and then shift to 2nd, keeping the clutch depressed throughout, the 2nd and all subsequent shifts (while the clutch is depressed) will be smooth. But the second I release the clutch, depress the clutch and shift again, it will be rough. It's rough for every gear.

The best way I can describe it, is that it feels like the resistance when shifting into reverse.

Can anyone help me? The car is an 04 LX with 75k miles

Re: Standard trans- Rough gearstick shifting

So I have been doing a lot of research and a lot of people are saving the shift linkages should be lubricated

That is from another thread, it's under the hood but I'm having a hard time finding them. Does anyone know where they are?

If its fine with the engine off, your clutch is dragging. If you had linkage trouble it wouldn't matter engine on or off, or how you shifted. Try to pump the clutch pedal a couple times before the shift to see if its the slave/master side, or the clutch itself.

Re: Standard trans- Rough gearstick shifting

Hi thanks for the reply-

I've just test it out a bit more. It seems that if I hold the clutch, wait like 3-5 seconds, then shift, it shifts much smoother than just shifting the instant the clutch is depressed. Any ideas?
