Headgasket Advice/Help
Headgasket Advice/Help
Hey everyone,
Just finished a readthrough of the overheating diagnosis... the verdict is in... and I'm pretty sure its the HG.
I'm pushing coolant into the overflow (not sure if its spilling out, but its definitely an inch from the top after about 300 km's of driving). I don't know if its a good sign that it doesn't fill up very quickly, but either way it has to get replaced.
I live in Canada, where we must be getting ripped off for labour. I'm getting quotes of ~$2,000 for parts, labour and machining no matter where I go (Is this high??) So I'm thinking of doing it myself. It's my gf's car so I hate to have her pay $2,000 for this replacement, but on the other hand I don't want to come out worse than it already is.
I think I can handle it myself, I'm familiar with the engine bay as well as the internals. Some questions/concerns
- Just did the thermostat, flushed coolant, new rad cap (what are the chances of a bad OEM cap?)
- Should I get new headbolts (OEM?)
- Would you recommend threadlock on any of the bolts?
- I replaced timing belt ~30,000 km ago, but not sure if the waterpump has ever been done. Should I replace it or wait til the next timing belt interval (in about 70,000 km).
- What manual would you recommend to take on this job?
Thank you!.
