guage lights get bright and then dim

I noticed that when i have my lights on, my guage lights get brighter and then will dim depending on what pedal i push, i havent found a patern.

Is this a common thing? Like a bad ground connection somewhere?

Thanks in Advance for any help/advice.

Probably a bad ground or a low alternator amperage output. Is this at idle only or higher rpms?

See if your head lights are doing it too.

It isn't just at idle, it is also at higher RPM's. I just put a Kensun HID kit in, I don't know if that might have somethin to do with it as well.

Your really a few hours away from being a certified John Deere Tech? That pretty cool, Me and my dad have 4 old 2 cylinder John Deeres, a few of which we've completely restored and one that still original.

Another thing i just thought of, I had to jump start a car the other day, and i just thought that it was because it was a tiny battery, but it took 10 minutes straight(10 minutes of doing nothing on the other car) of being hooked up to get the other car to turn over and finally start. Would that indicate a low alternator output?

Yes, but I changed career paths. It will stay at "avanced"

The battery is the heart of the system. So definitely check it out. Go to autozone, they will check the amperage of it in the car. If you had that much time jumping it a few things come to mind. #1 bad ground, this doesn't necessarily mean only at the gauges either, check the cables under the hood #2 the jumper cables you used had alot of resistance in them. #3 your battery is junk, it wouldn't take a jump #4 your alternator is weak #5 your starter is pulling so much out of the battery that it can't be maintained

The likelyhood of each is in the order that they are set

Re: guage lights get bright and then dim

could be normal. alternator voltage can vary by 2v or more while the car is being driven under certain conditions, which can certainly cause noticable brightness variations. also when you use power intensive accessories like the brake pedal, headlights, power windows, a/c, etc it will pull too much load and the lights will dim. again, normal (for these cars).
