Transmission Noise Question
Transmission Noise Question
Ok so just in quickly browsing I've found that the input shafte bearing is a common problem on my year of civic (mine is an '05). So when I heard a SHHHH noise coming from the trans after i bought it that was only preasent in neautral, with the clutch out, I assumed it was the input shaft bearing. I brought it to the mechanic and he agreed but to be safe he changed every bearing in the trans including the throw out bearing and clutch assembly. Now roughly 1 week later the noise(or a very similar SHHHH noise) is back. In looking closer at these forums it looks like its usually a grinding noise that indicated a bad input shaft bearing whereas my noise is slightly different. Any suggestions ideas etc?
Also when I got the car back i listened for the noise and I heard nothing. The next day there was a slight shhh that was quickly hard to distinguish from engine noise after a few seconds. Now it is nearly as loud as it was before the repair. I'm at a loss. Basically what I'm trying to do is come up with a massive list for him to check if we determine the whole thing has to be pulled apart again. Here's what I have so far:
Input Shaft Bearing(again)
Gear teeth for wear
Syncros for wear
Chunks, chips, junk left over from last bad bearing
Wear on the input shaft
Some of these things may be retarted but I don't know much about transmissions. The most I have done is change the clutch on my '97 Eclipse N/T so bear with me.
Basically this noise is pissing me off and I don't want my car to be a time bomb as I drive the thing on 280 and into newark every single day. Thanks
