Tinted windows weakened radio signal
Tinted windows weakened radio signal
Have anyone had problems with your AM and FM signal after having your windows tinted? My AM radio is totally gone and I am only getting certain stations on my FM and signal is very weak. If you did, what did you do to fix the problem? I took it to the dealer and they checked it out and told me that tinting the windows can make radio signal weak. They said they can't fix it. That I have to take my car to a local stereo shop and they can help me. So much for going back to your dealership service ctr. if they can't help you
Any suggestions, comments or help will surely be appreciated. Thanks again.

check to see if the window tinting place damaged the antenna or connection box on your rear window... if they cut it by mistake while doing your tints... that may be the cause of yoru problem
Did you use a metallic dye tint like the top products from Llumar? Well, according to the guy who did my tint, the metal used in the dye kills the radio reception of cars with their antenna installed in the rear window. He gets around that by installing the older pigment dye on the rear window. Fortunate for me, all my tint used has a lifetime warranty, so if the rear window fades, I will be able to get it replaced for free. Hope this helps.

The only problem with that is when they remove the old tint from the rear window there is like a 95% chance they will damage the defrost and the antenna.

That is true the dealership didn't install it so they don't have to do anything for you. Had they done it for you they would have to cover it under warrenty. Basically there are no fixes for this problem except buying the XM radio **** and paying the monthly fee or buying a CD player. You can try taking it to where you had it done but same thing unless they screwed up and installed the stuff wrong they are not liable for the radio reception.
I got my windows tinted right after I got the car (metallic tint) and I've also noticed my radio signal was weak but just thought it was my after market alpine. Oh well I never listen to the radio anyway, but you can buy an antenna booster. I had one back in the day it hooks up between the antenna and the radio, hook up power and ground and your ready to go. I think they only cost about $15. Or you can listen to CD's they sound so much better.
HAS ANYONE THOUGHT OF USING THE DARK TINT THAT ATTATCHES WITH STATIC CLING.
I BOUGHT SOME JUST BECAUSE I DON'T WANT THE DEFROST AND ANTENNA SCREWED UP. IF I DO
A BAD TINT JOB I CAN ALWAYS KEEP DOING IT TILL IT'S RIGHT.

I've never had any luck with the static cling tint looking any good at all. As far as where to buy an antenna booster, the one I bought ( about ten years ago) I got at wal-mart. Hell I don't know if anyone even sells them anymore. It gave me about a 20% better signal.
