Urgent help!

HELP, so me and my mechanic friend are installing the engine back into my 2002 Honda Civic EX Vtec 1.7 liter, but while doing this we noticed the following bolt/spring missing from the engine. We found it in the bag that we put the disassembled head in (camshaft etc) in...

We're not sure where it goes, can someone with knowledge please let us know.

Thanks!

I think it belongs to the cylinder head, just not sure where.

I looked at the cylinder head and I don't see where it would go... I looked at the block too.

Re: Urgent help!

Hate to guess, but it looks like it should be in a valve body.

It definitely looks like a valve out of some sort of hydraulic system, be it oil, steering, or trans.

You didn't take the VTEC valve apart did you? (It looks too big to be out of that.)

Maybe some joker in the shop just tossed that in your parts pile.
Crap like that happens when you work with kids.

Re: Urgent help!

Looks like you took apart your VTEC valve.
Looks a lot like this one:

You weren't supposed to take THAT apart. DOH!

Looks exactly like that. I went on to install the rest of the engine without that and when I try to start it, it attempts to start but it cant. Hopefully installing the solenoid piece would make it start.

Thanks everyone. I appreciate it.

Re: Urgent help!

Removing the complete unit off of the side of the head was ok since you can get a gasket for it easily, but taking it all the way apart was the no-no.
