Strange Manual Transmission Sounds
Strange Manual Transmission Sounds
I had to get my 5-speed replaced about a month ago. The transmission shop replaced it with a used transmission with about 63,000 miles on it. When im sitting in neutral with the clutch disengaged, I can hear a slight grinding sound. Then when I put it in first gear and take off it sounds normal at first, but once it revs up in first gear it makes a crazy grinding sound! I sure hope this isnt anything I need to worry about. They also replaced the clutch along with the transmission if that means anything. Is there a break-in period or is this bearing trouble?
Also, side note.. Definitely feels as if it is a different transmission than the original. It is geared lower. Before getting it replaced, I could cruise at 70 mph and be at about 3100 rpm. Now I am at about 3600 rpm. I dont mind it, the extra pep is much appreciated actually
Any info you guys can provide would be much appreciated!

Re: Strange Manual Transmission Sounds
There is definately a problem.
I am sure the shop will warranty their work. It could be a input shaft bearing or a throw out bearing. Hard to tell by what your saying.
