Auto Transmisson Flush

2002 EX has 117,000 miles on it. Had a AT flush at 53,000 miles. Dealership is recommending a flush but I'm reading on these forums that doing so at a high mileage can actually cause damage to the transmission?

Was going to do it myself because it looks so easy. Should I just have the dealership do it so that if it does cause damage it's their fault not mine?

Re: Auto Transmisson Flush

If the flush damages the transmission the dealership will not accept fault.

Re: Auto Transmisson Flush

just change it yourself, its way easier to change it than oil change and all fluid has life span same as the ATF. Just drain and fill 2-3 times and after that change it every 16000 miles. Nothing beats a maintain trans through fluid change than getting it replace for $2k.(you'll wonder there's lot of specific garage focusing only on transmission)they want you to change it in long interval so u'll have to replace your tranny as soon often.

Re: Auto Transmisson Flush

DIY it.
Drain it and refill it.
Use the PROPER fluid. About 2.5-2.75 Qts.
If you really want to flush it, it is just multiple drain and fills with a case of fluid.

Changing the fluid by itself won't cause problems.
NOT changing it can cause problems.
Some problems can happen no matter whether you change fluid or not.

Many people either wait far too long to change it, or have the usual problems that happen normally on any trans (and these have their fair share of problems), then blame their problems on the fluid service (eversinceyoutouchedit).

That said, the type of flush you get at a JippyLube: a flush with chemicals and a machine, is a big NONO.

This has a word-for-word copy of the Honda document on flushing the trans (just substitute the new DW-1 fluid for the old Z-1 fluid): http://www.crvownersclub.com/forums/...html#post13701
