69k mile service

So I have a 2004 Civic EX 5 speed, and its time of its 60k service. I was just wondering if any of you actually take your car to your local Honda dealership for the servicing. They charge close to $400 bucks for every service, and I was wondering if you guys thinks it's a good idea to keep with the Honda recommended services.

It is of the utmost importance for the longevity of your vehicle to follow the Honda recommended services and intervals. Some will even tell you to do things more frequently (i.e. atf drain-and-fill.)

Whether you decide to take it to a dealer, independent shop or do it yourself is entirely up to you.

If you decide to do some of the things on your own, this website is a great resource.

Re: 69k mile service

60k Service would probably include
-MTF fluid
-Clutch fluid should be replaced
-Maybe brake fluid (If over 3 years) (depending when it was last changed)
-Oil change (depending when it was last changed)
-Air filter (depending when it was last changed)
-Cabin filter (depending when it was last changed)

Everything else is all inspecting, inspect drive belts, hoses, tie rods ball joints etc etc..

Re: 69k mile service

Thanks for the responses, guys. I think I might bring it into the dealer and just have them do the 60k service. I figure they inspect the car for any potential issues in the process, and to be honest, i want them to catch it now before I'm driving down the street and a wheel flies off or something. I just wanted to see if they were just charging me 400 bucks for a simple oil change...

BUT...I have done a lot of those things to the car myself already

-I completely overhauled the brakes (new almost everything)
-I replaced the MTF in the transmission (I have a MT), I even flushed the hydraulic fluid in the clutch system
-I got new tires, so everything has been rotated already
-I changed the spark plugs and air filter 5k miles ago
-Only thing that really NEEDS to be done is an oil change
However, I have not flushed the radiator fluid, or inspects the suspension, and I think I may need to have my valve clearance checked because I hear ticking noises under acceleration

Re: 69k mile service

$400 is overkill for what they are going to do, believe me.

What I mentioned above is POSSIBLE things they SHOULD do.

You would have to ask them what THEY are going to do for $400. Perhaps tell them what you have done so they can adjust the price, or else they are just going to charge you $400 just to "inspect" everything.

Thanks for the help, I think I'll just change the oil and flush the radiator fluid myself. I have a question about a TSB for my car's windshield. It leaks like crazy in the rain and there was a TSB for a warped windshield gasket. Would I need to take it into the dealer to get that done?

Re: 69k mile service

They may do it but they dont have to. A tsb may be done out of courtesy, but does not have to be done. Make sure that you are not paying BEFORE they start the work.

If one dealer says no try another one. Best to bring the TSB with you.
