2002 Civic Ex
I was driving on the highway until my car broke down. I heard a noise and then I couldn't drive it anymore and pulled to the side. At first I called a friend to see what it could be and he said I might of been the timing belt, because I told him I heard like a clanking noise. But after taking it all off today, I found out it wasn't the timing belt. I went to check to turn on the car again, and actually noticed that the lights and stuff were still on, and I crank to see if it would work. It won't crank but nothing inside the engine was moving either. So I am asking if it could be the starter or is it something else.

the engine doesnt start at all? if nothing happens when you turn the key, it could be a low battery too, or the starter, or maybe even a blown fuse.

I doesn't crank, when I turn the key all the lights and ac are on. I was thinking it was the starter. I'm changing it out today actually so we will see.
Re: 2002 Civic Ex
I'm not sure if it's the starter, because if I read you correctly, the car was already running when it broke down, so why would the starter be the issue. When you turn the key to start it, do you hear any noise at all coming from under the hood that would indicate that the starter is at least engaging or getting power? I think the bigger question here is why did the car stop in the first place. If you have a manual transmission car, you can try kick starting it. But I suggest that before you do anything or make any serious purchases, read the car for any codes.
