very bizarre car starting problem
very bizarre car starting problem
hey folks,
I have a 2001 honda civic lx. Today, I get into the car, start the car while simultaneously opening the windows, then the starter motor starts making this weird noise and the car is having a hard time turning over. I back off the ignition, retry, and the starter motor is cranking and making a noise that sounds like the solenoid died halfway and the starter gears are just grinding. After a few seconds of this, the starter motor begins to bog down like the battery is dying. I try a few times, pump some gas, and just keep the ignition turned on. The car slowly turns over and the engine WEAKLY starts. At first, I thought maybe the battery was giving out. But, the windows were rolling down fine without the car started. After a few minutes of warming up, the car was good to go. It has been starting fine ever since and drives ok.
Anyone know what just happened? Should I think about replacing the starter motor?
much thanks for reading!

Re: very bizarre car starting problem
May not have been getting enough voltage to turn the starter right. The only source of voltage when the alternator isn't turning is the battery. Don't run accessories (windows) when starting the car. May want to have the battery checked anyways.
