03 Civic Si - Overheating
03 Civic Si - Overheating
I have an 03 Civic Si with the 1.7L. After driving for a bit the gauge goes from normal to High randomly, when it happens the fans stop functioning. At idle the fans also don't run at all. Fluid was being sprayed in the engine bay.
We by-passed the fan stat and the fans do function.
We changed the head gasket and the problem went away for 2 days.
Now there is no coolant being sprayed in the engine bay.
The fans stopped functioning, and the gauge shows the car is overheating.
We took the car for a 1 hour drive and checked the engine temperature manually and it was cool to the touch.
Not to sure where to go from here, if anyone knows of anything I could try. Thanks.

Re: 03 Civic Si - Overheating
Have you checked the thermostat? It could be malfunctioning. A good way to test is to take it out, put it in a pot of boiling water and see if it opens. If it doesn't, there's your problem. Also, if it was recently replaced, make sure it was correctly installed (i.e. there is a "up" position it needs to be installed in).
