Object in #1 Cylinder

Anyone ever seen this before. Looks like spark plug electrodes in the cylinder beating up the inside of the cylinder. On a 2003 EX with 70000 miles

DAM, WTF?! Yes but, I've never seen one with that many pits in the metal. Meaning that's A LOT of revolutions with debris in there. How long did you drive with it doing that?

7 will never be your lucky number if you took THAT pic in 07/07... most spark plugs will have only one electrode... does yours supposed to have had more than one? just a few that have 3 or 4.

Re: Object in #1 Cylinder

Bought the car with 70001 miles on June 9. Now has 71100. Only indication of issue that we had was a P00300 CEL after it smashed the plug so bad it couldn't fire. Then you could hear the knock of the piston hitting the plug. Drove about 6 blks home after CEL. Dealership Mechanic says it's not part of the plug or engine, it's "foreign to the car". What are your thoughts? Needless to say I'm peeved beyond words.

Like previously posted, if the cylinder wall isn't scored then it's fixable. Otherwise you need a new bottom end. It's about the same price, or more expensive, to rebuild than it is to just get another engine. For a new engine check craigslist, ebay, or here: http://www.car-part.com/

Re: Object in #1 Cylinder

Appreciate the help, no codes when I bought the thing. Only after 1100 miles, got the CEL and knocking noise. My bet is the dealer broke the electrode off when they did the compression check in their used car inspection, put in a new plug and sent me on my way. Took 1100 miles to bash the plug bad enough to throw the code. Thoughts?

Re: Object in #1 Cylinder

Well, if you have paperwork proving they were the last ones to touch it you could try talking to them or suing. Otherwise you're out an engine.

nationwide salvage listings: http://www.car-part.com/

Also, the electrode coming off can be caused by them not torquing the plug right so it was oriented wrong and something in the engine knocked it off.
