01 civic ex automatic transmission failure?

*I'm new to CivicForums

I have a 2001 Honda Civic EX Coupe and the transmission failed yesterday. The car has about 128k miles on it. I went to LA and back with no problems. About 1/4 a mile away from my house, the transmission failed. Luckily this wasn't on the freeway, otherwise I would've died. The problem is that when I press the gas pedal, the car doesn't go anywhere. My engine revs but it doesn't go anywhere. I never experienced any problems with the transmission for the entire time I had the car. It just stopped working all of a sudden. I'm not sure what's wrong. The person who towed my car said that it could be the transmission solenoid pack, transmission shaft, torque converter, or the transmission cable. My car turns on and goes into every gear but when I press the gas, it doesn't move, it just revs the engine. The car was working perfectly throughout the day until I came home. Does anyone know what might have gone wrong? This is my only transportation and I want to get it fixed asap. But I want to figure what's wrong first. Thank you!

check the engine light, it may tell you whats wrong. sometimes a bad TPS (throttle position sensor) on the throttle body can cause the feeling of a broken trans. could also be an engine problem. if the timing belt broke, the engine wouldnt make any power to move the car.

Re: 01 civic ex automatic transmission failure?

it happened to me last year , also have a 2k1 civic with 170k KM on it. all of a sudden at a stop it just will not move or reverse just engine revs, got it towed and it was the transmission. I had a reconditioned one swap for $1200 CAN the next day and back in business, did a research and 01-04 had common tranny issues which was fixed at 05 model, but too late already. good luck cheers
